Prayer & Spiritual Formation

Women of Excellence Begins With God.

There is something profoundly biblical about a well. It is the place people come to when their reserves are low, not to be lectured, not to perform, but simply to receive. Jacob’s Well is Women of Excellence’s answer to that ancient human need. It is a space of practical, dignified care for women and families who are navigating hardship, uncertainty, or crisis, and who deserve to be met with warmth, not process.

Formation is a slow word. It resists the pace of the culture we inhabit. But we have found, consistently, that the women who lead most effectively, love most generously, and endure most faithfully are the women who have learned to tend what is happening inside them. This programme creates the conditions for that tending, the rhythm, the practice, the community, and the space to be formed rather than just informed.

WHO IT IS FOR

This programme is for every woman in the movement, from those just beginning to explore a life of faith, to those with decades of spiritual practice who sense they have more to discover. It is particularly for women who are doing a great deal for others and have allowed their own spiritual life to become thin in the process. It is also for women who pray but have never been taught to pray, and who long for a richer, more intentional relationship with God.

CORE EXPRESSION

  • Sustainable personal prayer rhythms, built for ordinary life. We do not teach women to pray in ways that only work on retreat. We teach frameworks and rhythms that can be sustained through the chaos of work, parenting, ministry, and everything else, because a prayer life that only functions in ideal conditions is not a prayer life.
  • Grounding in the classical spiritual disciplines. Silence, solitude, fasting, lectio divina, the Daily Office, contemplative prayer, journaling, and scripture meditation, these ancient practices are made accessible, explained in depth, and practiced together within the community before being integrated into personal rhythms.
  • Corporate intercession for the movement and the world. Women of Excellence is a praying movement. Our corporate prayer gatherings are not performances or programmes. They are genuine, sustained intercession, for the women we serve, the communities we inhabit, the nations we are connected to, and the world we believe God has not abandoned.
  • Retreats and extended silence as formation anchors. Annually, and at key transition points, we offer women the gift of unhurried time, structured retreats that create space for deep listening, honest reckoning, and genuine renewal. These are among the most significant experiences women report in the movement.
  • Spiritual direction as an ongoing pastoral resource. For women who want a more guided approach to their interior journey, trained spiritual directors are available within the movement. These are relationships of deep listening and gentle accompaniment, not counselling, not coaching, but something more specifically spiritual.
  • Formation integrated across all programmes. Spiritual formation is not contained in this programme alone. It is woven into Leadership Development, Marriage Support, Outreach, every strand of the movement. The intention is that a woman cannot be part of Women of Excellence without being formed by it.
  • A theology of the ordinary God in everyday life. Formation is not only for special occasions. This strand of the programme helps women develop a theological imagination for their daily lives the commute, the difficult conversation, the moment of beauty, the experience of loss as places where God is actively present.
